“Allegiance to Gravity”
Redwood, Enamel, and Marble
60 ¾” x 11 ¾” x 8 ½”

In this multi-part work, I have in a formal way utilized the phenomenon of gravity as a means of finding the inherent balance of each part as it is added to the others in progression, thereby determining their orientation in space as well as in the final state contributing to the sculptural form; when the I component parts are in harmony with their center of gravity, they are then in balance, and capable of standing without external support, and subsequently attached with concealed mechanical fasteners as security against outside forces, e.g., the wind, architectural vibrations, careless viewers with impaired kinetic sensitivity, earthquakes, atmospheric pressure fluctuations and the unwelcome psychic discomfiture of disapproving critics.
