Zephyr
Deceptive winter
January
with its indecisive sky.
Winds chase
dark forms
to overtake light,
then reverse,
twisting.
Stripped framework of branches
shiver after rain.
Wasted woman
sits
silently,
save her breath.
Savoring breath.
Saving her breath.
Numb fingers
pulling at thick lids,
lined and brushed stiff;
curling to alertness.
Behind them
empty sails
anticipate.Previous Midwestern Writer Midwestern Writer Index Next Midwestern Writer
