Manuel Mantero (Spain) was born in Seville in 1930. His books include Tiempo del hombre (1960) and Ya quiere amanecer (1975). His collected poems, Como llama en el diamante was published in 1996. His selected poems in translation, New Songs for the Ruins of Spain, was published in 1986. He is the recipient of the Fastenrath Prize from the real academia de la Lengua and the Albert-Christ Janer Award. He has taught at the Universities of Seville and Madrid. He is currently Professor of Romance Languages at the University of Georgia.
