Dacia Maraini (Italy). Essayist, novelist, poet, filmmaker and playwright Dacia Maraini became the leading spokesperson for feminism in Italy in the 1970s. She is the author of more than fifty books, many of them available in English translation, including Traveling in the Gait of a Fox (Poetry 1983-1991), Memories of a She-Thief, The Silent Duchess, Isolina, The Long Life of Marianna Ucria, and The Age of Discontent, which won the international prix Formentor. Early in her career, Maraini founded the literary review Tempo di Letteratura; she later established the all-women's theater group Teatro della Maddellena. Born in Florence, Maraini now lives in Rome.
