MICHAEL WINTER



Michael Winter has spent 20 years in the world of journalism and publishing. He has worked as a writer and editor at such metro dailies as the Philadelphia Inquirer and San Jose Mercury News, and was associate publisher of SF Weekly and The City magazine in San Francisco. Currently, he is the assistant foreign editor of the Mercury News.

Winter has written poetry much of his life (though submitted little for publication). His work has appeared in The Verdict Is In (manic d press, SF), SF Weekly, Hot Coffee and City Nights. He was co-creator of Wordland, a monthly spectacle of poetry, performance, images, music and dance in the Women's Building in San Francisco, and also read regularly with The Pep Boys at Above Brainwash and Slim's.

Born and raised in the Niagara Frontier of Western New York, Winter graduated from Michigan State in 1979. He is considered an honorary Canadian.

Winter has lived in San Francisco since 1989.
